JOHN A. BAALMAN, PLS

ROLE

In the early phases of a GPS project, John Baalman will meet with our clients to identify their GPS standards and ensure that our data acquisition methods and schedule meets their end use needs.

Once a project is under way, his responsibilities include:

bulletQuality review of the GPS data to ensure mapping accuracy

EXPERIENCE

John Baalman has over 24 years of surveying experience with 16 years in the responsible position of Office Manager and Survey Manager. His experience includes all phases of field and office work relating to the surveying field. As survey manager he was responsible for spot checks of calculations, drawings, legal descriptions, and field data: coordinating checks on scope of work, estimates, scheduling and budget; reducing field notes; performing field inspections; providing research for all types of survey projects; plotting topography and boundary calculations; and preparing final plats. He has been involved in an array of survey types, including:

He is proficient in all types of Theodolites and EDM’s including Wild, Zeiss, Hewlett-Packard, Kern Topcon, Trimble GPS receivers and Trimbles GPS Total Station. He operates various computer software including Map, Starnet, Starlev, AutoCad, Trimble GPSurvey, Trimvec and Trimnet Plus GPS Post Processing software.

PROJECTS

He has been in charge of large Bureau of Reclamation projects involving hundreds of structures and many miles of canal and pipeline construction. He has directed field operations and performed calculations for a 150-mile utility project involving G.P.S. control (State Plane Coordinates), topographic surveys, easements and boundary surveys throughout Oregon, Eastern Washington, Idaho and Wyoming.

He has directed field operations and calculations for several U.S. Army Corps of Engineers flood boundary and cadastral projects.

He has performed G.P.S. control surveys for both Franklin and Benton Counties involving networks of 100 and 200 points to control the implementation of G.I.S.
